"
Hi there, I'm Kieran and I am SUSO president for 2021/22! I am going into my 3rd year of my Music with French degree, having been in the orchestra since I joined the university in my first year! You will usually find me in the Lower brass section, with Trombone and Tuba being my main instruments. I have previously been Social Secretary and Publicity Officer, and I can't wait for what the year has in store for SUSO!

“Hi I’m Rosie, a 3rd year music student. This coming academic year will be my third year in Suso and my second year as Vice President on the committee. One of my favourite moments of Suso was when we put on a summer concert at the end of this year (and of course the after party that followed)! Putting on this concert during the pandemic was definitely a challenge and was so rewarding and provided so many memories that I’ll treasure. This year we have so many exciting things planned for the orchestra including a few massive projects! I am so excited to work with Kieran and the rest of committee this coming academic year to make these upcoming projects happen, covid permitting of course! Suso and VP love, Rosie xxx"

"Hello everyone, I’m Thomas, I’ve been playing percussion in SUSO for four years but am now playing cello. I’ve had a great time in SUSO so far and even though I’m terrible at remembering what pieces it is I’ve played; I do remember enjoying it all. My favourite orchestral experience was playing Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. As well as playing in orchestra, I enjoy sports, gym, computer games, singing, formula 1 and designing steel-concrete composite highway bridges. Also, Come On Tour!"

"Hi, I’m Owyn, joining the mighty publicity team with Mikey, the other tenor trombone. This is my second year in SUSO, and I’m really looking forward to joining the committee and helping this year run as smoothly as possible. My favourite classical piece would probably be either Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov or Mahler 5, so I can’t wait to play it with you all next term!"

Hi I’m Ollie, I study Acoustical Engineering and this will be my third year in SUSO. I play bass trombone and am looking forward to the brassy repertoire this year. My favourite piece is Mahler 6 😀.

Will Shirras
Hi everyone, I'm Will, one of your social secretaries for this year. I'm a third year Chemistry student and I've been in SUSO throughout my time here. I'm looking forward to welcoming and integrating everyone into the friendly orchestra community. I've loved my time in SUSO and I hope I'll be able to help everyone enjoy theirs as well by planning fun socials throughout the year. I loved playing the Alpine Symphony for the centenary concert, and I also love Shostakovich string quartets.
Meet Charlie, 1/2 of our social sec dynamic duo! Meet Charlie, 1/2 of our social sec dynamic duo!

Hi! I’m Charlie, a 4th year music student. I have been in SUSO for 3 years now and I was President last year! I loved being on committee so much I decided to stay on for another year… fun fact, this will be my third year in a row as a social sec on a music committee! I love how friendly SUSO is, and have made my closest friends through the orchestra so I’m looking forward to holding lots of fun socials and enabling others to do the same. My favourite moment in SUSO has to be a tie between the Centenary concert in March 2020 where we played Strauss’ Alpine Symphony, and our summer concert in June 2021 where after a stressful year of covid we finally managed to hold a concert again; the feeling of getting back on stage after so long was incredible! My favourite piece of music is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, it’s just divine, but as a horn player I also love most heavily romantic music.
Next up! Meet me...? The publicity officer Hi, I Next up! Meet me...? The publicity officer

Hi, I am Mikey, this will be my 4th year in SUSO and I am very excited to be a part of the committee and getting to design some snazzy posters for the concerts this year! I play the trombone and am looking forward to the brass heavy rep this year! My favourite orchestral piece is Tchaik 6.
This is Emily our librarian! “Hey!! I’m Emil This is Emily our librarian!

“Hey!! I’m Emily and I’m a 2nd year music student. This is my second year in SUSO and my first year on committee as the librarian. For me, the best part of SUSO is being able to meet and play with so many talented musicians, something that I really missed during lockdown. My favourite SUSO moment was being part of the first concert in over a year due to covid and playing Pirates of the Caribbean as I love playing film scores. I also love playing Vaughan Williams and Mahler, and I am a huge fan of the ballet so Stravinsky’s “The Firebird” is a favourite. Here’s to a year with (hopefully) some more live music !! Suso love 🙂
Emily 🧡”
Meet Rebekah our Outreach officer! Hi everyone! Meet Rebekah our Outreach officer!

Hi everyone! I'm Bekah a 3rd year music student and I am this year's outreach officer! Suso is an incredible way to make friends at uni and I'm so excited to be able to play with amazing musicians again after the last year! Playing the Alpine Symphony just before the pandemic started stands out as a highlight of my time at uni, but my favourite memory has to be baby suso! I'm so excited to organise it this year and hopefully we can inspire the next generation of musicians in Southampton and show how important music is for young people.
