After a series of performances at the Edinburgh Festival including repertoire such as Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4, Antony Dennant left due to increasing work as a freelance violinist in London. These were his final performances with SUSO.

Quote from Simon Pickering, President from Xmas 1993 – pre-tour 1995:
“It was a fairly tumultuous time as Antony Dennant was retiring, along with the entire committee. Membership was low and there was no money. As an entirely first year committee we pretty-much had to reboot the orchestra. We took the orchestra to the NAYO festival in Edinburgh, (I can’t vouch for the history, but no-one at the time had known the orchestra to have toured before) and got the orchestra back in the black by doubling the concerts programme and increasing the membership from 60 to 90. We held auditions for a new conductor.”
